Chesterfield Festival - Getting into gear

Crooked Spire Church

26th May 2006

Plans for Chesterfield's 3rd Market Festival stepped up a gear last month and the programme is almost complete. Set to take place in the October Half Term, from Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 October, the full programme will be in print towards the end of July.

Highlight events include a concert in the ‘Crooked Spire' Church by the London Mozart Players, the Dhol Foundation from the largest Dhol institution in Britain in concert at the Winding Wheel and popular local jazz group the Nicola Farnon Quartet playing in the New Square Marquee.

New for 2006 is a feature event in Queen's Park. See the Park as never before lit up against the dark October skies with glowing stilt walkers, luminous juggling and lots more. Walk into a brightly shining beached whale to discover deep sea wonders in landlocked Chesterfield.

The Romans are coming! Rykneld Square will host a bustling Roman market with traders, gladiators and even an army recruiting booth! Come along and consult a Roman doctor - and see him operate on a civilian. Watch the gladiators in training and find out about their armour and equipment.

Along with popular events from last year - like the Continental Market - Chesterfield Festival is ready to swing into high gear in the run up to October. To make sure you aren't left behind, get your programme at the end of July from the Tourist Information Centre in Rykneld Square (Tel: 01246 345777/8)
